Amritsar is a very influential and important city in Indian history due to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The major attraction of Amritsar is the Golden Temple. It is the pre-eminent spiritual site of Sikhism. It is one of the holiest sites in Sikhism, alongside the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur in Kartarpur, and Gurdwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib. The man-made pool on the site of the temple was completed by the fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das, in 1577 and Beating retreat ceremony at Indo-Pak border. Amritsar had faced economic, culture, social and political issues at the time of Indo-Pak partition.
